Discovery 4 2.7 TDV6 Engine Whistle Noise

Hi all.
I'm new to the forum and would really appreciate if anyone can help diagnose a strange whistle I have coming from the drivers side of the engine bay [RHD].

My car is a 2010 2.7 TDV6 Discovery 4 commercial [Auto]

It doesn't occur on tick over - mainly when backing off or cruising along under gentle load.
It does occasionally happen under normal acceleration but not from standing start, only when pottering along.

If I floor it, it can change to a brief screech.
Originally I thought it was a damaged crossover pipe so I had this changed but it hasn't cured it.
[I did turn out to be knackered anyway so it wasn't a complete waste of cash]

I've also had the turbo checked and it seems to be fine too.

I've posted a video on youtube to try and capture the noise as best as I can.

If anyone can offer an insight into what the problem might be, it would be very much appreciated.

One other point is that it doesn't affect performance.

Many thanks
James

To me it sounds like a bearing issue. From alternator to whatever is driven by the cambelt.

Difficult To judge at distance.

Cam belt tension pulley?
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Both sound like good shouts.

Thanks guys.

I’ve had both pulley failure and bearing failure, sounds more like the former than the latter to my non expert/non techie ears. Thumbs Up

Though it could be neither. Whistle

Re: Discovery 4 2.7 TDV6 Engine Whistle Noise

Did you work out what it was in the end?
Mines making the exact same noise
