Dunlop Hill (Puff spoiler alert!)

Puff and I were talking about trying Dunlop Hill near Brechfa (W Wales). Rather than make a Censored of myself, I thought I'd take advantage of a very slow work day to get in some practise. Puff - look away now if you don't want to know the score...

Summary: well worth the trip; there are other routes nearby that need to be tried.

Grippy tyres, low-range and off-road height but no terrain-response or HDC. A very capable car did it all - I just had to point it in the general direction.

Yes, this is a Disco forum and I'm driving a RRS but I did see a D3 en-route. I am thinking of patenting my solo gate-opening technique

What a great lane, it just goes on and up forever. Loved the twitsty bits and the trees.

Even on an overcast day like today, the views are fantastic. Thumbs Up If it had a pub at the top it would be perfect.

Some bottle doing that solo, fair do's. Thumbs Up It's pretty cheeky.

Does it have a one-way arrangement? I'd hate to meet something coming the other way with it being sunken for so much of its length

definitely some tight spots in there, both width and height with the overhanging trees. Lovely looking lane though Thumbs Up

No - only that if you even think "I wonder what would happen if I met something coming the other way?", it will happen. I don't think I'd like driving down it so much as going up it.

Brilliant!

Thank you for sharing these trails.

I’ve got some jobs to do to the Disco now. Then I’ll happily be on the trails all day with you.

No worries Hugh! I've been flat out 10/12 hour days on the building work this week and no let up (bar tea breaks like now) for the w/end. Was going to message you.

Shame the council don't keep the road to the same condition as in that great video nowadays, not sure you'd get many of those vehicles up there today.

is when I last did Dunlop, though I didn't know the name at the time.

Ah, yes. I missed that day (again) but wasn't Dunlop Hill where Wayne stopped, took a photo of the 4WD display of wheels on opposing bump-stops, and then drove-off, thereby highlighting how clever these cars are?

Yes, I baled before that last lane because I had a 3+ hour drive home - and the tyres already some sidewall cuts on them. Glad I did because it loos a bit "tyre cutty". Not that I'm saying "no" a future trip.

I came back with one small cut in a sidewall. Just superficial, unlike some of my previous ones. I seem to remember video of James and you fording a big ditch somewhere in Brechfa.

No big fording of ditches though some big puddles top of the hill where we finished that day (the route we didn't do by the gate I pointed out)
