Discovery 4 commercial MOT |
|
Just took my disco 4 2014 commercial for its MOT, not been this place before but they could fit it in so took it this afternoon, dropped it off and went for a walk, next thing get a phone call to come back to the garage, the tester tells me my discovery commercial is a class 7 commercial vehicle MOT due to the weight being over 2050kg
Now I’ve had 6 commercial discovery’s and not once have I been told at the MOT stage that it’s a class 7, can any of you learned owners shed light on this please coz it’s seriously Peed me off.
I can take it to another test station now coz he’s emailed DVLA to ask if it’s a class 7 or not and has given them my registration, so if another tester does test it and passes it and it’s proven that it is a class 7 then the MOT will be void 🤬🤬🤬 Discovery 3 TDV6 Commercial 2007

Mine went through last week as Class 4, and it was done at an HGV site, so they would know.

I remember Halfords rejecting my D3 Commercial a few years back claiming it was Class 7.
But my current MY13 D4 Commercial has sailed though our local garage as a 'car' (or whatever that means in terms of Class) with no issues.
I think the interpretation depends on the garage............. annoying I can see.

My little mot knowledge would say its a class 7 . As its over 2050 kg unladen it cannot be a dual purpose vehicle which is a class 4 , or a car derived van , its too heavy .

Had a little look at some info I have, as it is always possible my invoice for the MOT was incorrectly filled out, and, Goods vehicles up to 3,000kgs are class 4, between 3,000 & 3,500kgs, class 7.
As clear as mud!
And the actual certificate does not state which class it was tested at!
If it's got an MOT, whatever class it is/was, it's legal and would not flag up anywhere that it didn't have one, the cost for the 2 classes in question are the same, so can't see there being any issue.

Same happened to me earlier in the year - first garage got it booked, went to do the test, entered the reg. number or whatever they have to do and their system flagged up it being Class 7, which they weren't registered to do.
Took it to another place up the road that did commercials and cars and booked it in saying it was a class 7 commercial. They guy said it wasn't, "Discovery's are Class 4", but when he checked he also found it needed a Class 7. No problem getting it done but he did look baffled by it saying "done plenty of Discovery's but never seen one of these before".
No real issue, just limits the choice of where to take it. No idea what the difference in the test is.

I had a similar problem with my old Forward control Land Rover. Local garage would not test it as they thought it was a class 7 test . It was as I thought a Class 4 but the garage wouldn't take the risk

i do not see the issue TBH, why do you have a problem with a class 7 ??
Quote:The MOT tests for both Class 4 and Class 7 vehicles are mostly the same, however Class 7 MOTs allow for heavier vehicles. In addition to the usual checks carried out in a regular MOT, the Class 7 includes an additional check of the tyres to ensure they are suitable for the extra weight, as well as a brake efficiency test
