Loss of Brake performance
I’ve fitted new pads, discs and handbrake shoes and one rear Caliber in the last 6 months, bled the brakes using one of those gadgets that use the (lowered) pressure from the spare wheel and all seemed well, but noticed recently a loss of performance especially if needing to stop sharply, if I touch the brake pedal gently a couple of times before applying the brakes they are much sharper, I’ve got an IId tool no related errors registered Did try the brake bleed function on there but couldn’t get it to move past the first stage any ideas?

have you checked if all calipers have free play on slider pins? if not it would or could imact breaking performance
easy enough to check after while as pads would not be wearing evenly
just a suggestion but might be far from solution

if your having to pump the pedal to get the breaks to work you most likely have air in the system.
Check for leaks first, if thats okay then
Just bleed them the old way, engine running with an assistant pumping the pedal
start with the caliper furthest away from the reservoir to the closest last, doing all of them.
failing that the master cylinder may be on its way out, or the servo may be full of oil, there are threads on here already for that issue

I’d like to think the sliders were ok as Ive only just done them but will definitely check, I’ll try bleeding again and look into the master cylinder

Had quick look tonight, would a damaged vacuum hose cause this? Looks like it’s been rubbing, I’ll get it off tomorrow for a proper look

You can check if the hydraulics have air in & servo is working, by with engine off operate the pedal a few times to release the vacuum. The pedal should be rock hard when you press it, if its soft or spongy probably air in the hydraulics. Start the engine with foot on the brake and it should gradually depress and become softer if servo working. This wont tell if the callipers are working properly.

Thanks L319 tried that and all is well, been round each wheel and calliper today no leaks, Pad wear is even and the pistons were equally extended, Vacuum pipe appears well as when I separated it at the union the air escaped, finally bled them again tried to use the iid tool but the timer didn’t make sense so carried on with out it, ABS pump made a few strange noises, had a little air from the replaced calliper and all now appears well again, fingers crossed it stays that way! Next job is to find the ‘short to battery or open’ fault on the cornering lamps that’s lighting up the leds in the headlamps
