MOT fail due to emissions - no clue where to start with this

Hi everyone,

I have a 2008 non-DPF 2.7 D3 with 167,000 on the clock.

Today it failed it's MOT with the emissions being over the 1.5 [m-1].

It read 2.30 [m-1].

Whatever is at fault has happened in the last 12 months as this hasn't been an issue before.

Could this be an EGR valve fault? Do they need cleaning/replacing?

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Jonathan

Check for a boost leak first

Could possibly be a failing injector, check the injector compensation values

Get the engine hot then give it a good blast up the road redline it a few times. You will most likely see a bit of black smoke to start with when it stops smoking pop it in for a retest.

I've just put my scanner on the car and I can see that one of the EGR valves appears to be stuck.

Bank O seems to be fixed at 5% and Bank 1 seems to move freely when I blip the throttle.

Would I be correct at this assumption??

Also, which side is Bank 0 and Bank 1 - I have no clue!!???
