Love & Fear

I love my D4 but I also have a fear of the crankshaft problems and needing a new engine. I have mixed feeling! I feel so strange that a car that makes me smile and happy also makes me anxious!! To much information is not good at times!! Big Cry

I had the same problem with a jag once. Ended up selling it. At least with a d4 you can get a warranty to reduce the stress and free cash. Smile

Is that for all cover options?
Given your concerns , have you tried choosing only the cover that provides an engine warranty (core cover?) and choosing to pay a bigger excess. It seems your concerns are the bigger more major problems (car undriveable/not economically viable type). Doing that should take the sting out of costs and keep warranty costs down a bit.
Apologies if you have tried it already.

By the way bdc6570, I feel exactly the same as you. Never been so anxious about a car as this. For me , I think it's largely to do with being on this forum, where most posts are from people with issues. I've never been so actively involved in a forum like this before. Having said that, I gained such a great deal of information, contacts, advice and help, I wouldn't/couldn't be without it!
Cheers

Agreed Smile wishing I looked here before getting my d3 even. Having said that the help is great. Also has reminded me that a few years ago I was looking at getting an s-type jag. But found the prices were plummeting at 70-90k. Found out about crank failures so deemed it unsafe to get a car with that engine. .... enter the D3.... oops Smile. Love it though. Smile

Me too - so I took a WD policy with RAC recovery.

Prior to buying the D4 I had never had a LR and never had a warranty on any of the cars I ever owned (apart from one I bought new many years ago) but reading the forums prior to purchase it seemed the right thing to do so I just added it to the running costs Shocked

Crank failures are much less common than you'd think. Relax and enjoy Thumbs Up

Do I miss my D4, which was faultless, not really. Do I miss my D3, which took me on many adventures and looked after me, all whilst being a complete money pit, absolutely.

However, not missing the bills one little bit. Thumbs Up

That’s what I did, just core cover, reduces the price considerably

As above - I bought a high mileage one with the hope that if it’s made it to the ‘big’ mileage (200k) then it should be in the clear.

I love driving it, I also don’t worry too much about failures with what I paid for it. So it seems like a win win.

Wish I bought one years ago.

Yeah consider this- with 20% parts contribution and £250 excess came out at £1832 3 years

A bargain at £50 per month. Mine was a little more - £2100 for 3 years. That was for everything and I think minimum contribution as I heard they treat things as individual bits so individual claims liable to the excess.

Cheers.
