Costs & Reliability
Hi, I have been a member of RRSport.co.uk for a few years after owning a couple of RRS' but then moved to company cars, after recently handing back my company Outlander PHEV (boring but initially had cheap BIK tax, not so cheap now) I am looking to get a Disco 4.
Would like to pick your brains if I can, I notice Disco 4's take big mileages well but at what cost?
If I go for say a 2014 with 80k on the clock with the idea of keeping it for 5 years or so and putting another 80k on it what issues with reliability and expenses can I expect?
Any thoughts and opinions are welcome

Generally speaking costs are high when compared to most vehicle ownership. Reliability is good if well maintained by someone who knows these vehicles and understands / interprets correctly fault symptoms and diagnostics. And that takes us back into costs!
The key to this in my opinion is finding a trustworthy independent specialist who fills the above mentioned criteria. There are many out there, and there are many pretenders too. Members on here will be able to advise you in this regard, and you should take any such advice on board! Annual servicing as well as periodic checks are a must regardless of mileage, as is an oil service every 6k. The more they are driven the more reliable they tend to be.
Car's sitting unused develop problems all on their own, so bear this in mind! Expect maintenance to run at around £500 to £1000 per year without major component failures. Some years might blow that out of the water and then some
You could keep an eye out here on the forum as well maintained motors regularly come up for sale.
Best of luck with your search yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Realistically? hopefully not all of the stuff below but some of them are slightly on the expensive side if they occur
Diesel, you need to change the timing belts at 7 years/112k miles, so in a year or so.
Diesel, ancillary drive belts at 10 years (I think)
Diesel, turbo
Diesel, intercooler
Diesel, inlet manifold
Diesel, crankshaft
Suspension (bushes upper/lower arms, ARB)
Annual oil change, filters
Probably brake pads (and perhaps disks) at some point
I would flush the transmission, change oil on front and rear differentials and transfer box

You quite enjoyed pointing out the diesel weak points.
