crankshaft front oil seal |
|
Hi
I am attempting to fit the crankshaft oil seal following the replacement of the oil pump.
Some years ago I purchased the sleeve which is used to properly fit the oil seal onto the end of the crankshaft. The sleeve is part aluminium with a tapered plastic section which you remove when the seal is stretched to the correct size to fit on the crankshaft.
I cannot remove the plastic section from the main aluminium barrel and I am unsure whether the plastic section unscrews or is a push fit. I have tried all sorts to shift it with no luck.
Could someone please advise me how this bit of kit, manufactured by OTC comes apart.

Hi Flack
I popped it in the freezer, as you suggested, and it came apart without any problem.
I also appreciated your advice in a post on the removal of the oil pump where you suggested the use of a bolt through the tensioner mounting to push the oil pump off the block. You have saved me a lot of grief with your good advice.
Compressor, rear valve block rebuild, removal of starter motor, oil pump replacement, the joys of owning a D3!!!
Thank you for your advice
