Prior to oil change, anyone recognise this type of oil leak?
Afternoon all,
I am about to attempt do an oil change on my D3 at home and investigated under the engine cover. Found this mess. Not sure when the last service was done as recent owner privately serviced and I bought it from a trader who got it as a PX at a main dealer. I don’t usually do my own servicing.
Questions:
1. Is this likely to be an o ring on the filter/filter leaking or something else that is typical of this in that location?
2. There is a slight overboost noise on lift off when acccelerating. Possibly connected?
3. Should I run for the hills....
It is wise to clean it up first with a detergent type cleaner to get a better view or is there a risk of damage?
Thanks in advance.2007 Discovery 3 HSE Lugano Teal

The pictures aren’t the best - it’s quite hard to work out if it’s wet new oil, or just a build up of old oil. It’s quite common to make a mess while swapping oil filters out. If the previous person didn’t use rages etc to soak any spillage up, then it’s easy to soak everything around that area.
if there’s no drips on the floor/no burning smell or loss of oil on the dip stick - you should be okay..Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

I hope you are right. Possibly is old and the pics are not great. I’ll clean it up a bit and see what that shows me.2007 Discovery 3 HSE Lugano Teal

Have a look at the "Vee" between the cylinder banks and see if there is oil down there. If there is it could be the oil cooler has sprung a leak. If not it's likely the seals on the "Y" piece where it meets the inlet manifolds have become brittle and are leaking.
Have you needed to top up the oil by much?yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Not done anything to it yet apart from just give it a quick clean up. Oil level looks consistent.2007 Discovery 3 HSE Lugano Teal
