Upgrading dash h trim
I have just purchased a gloss black silver centre h trim and is it possible that newer trims on the D3 do not fit the early D3?

The piano black upright sections appear to have metal connections and at the top of the dash frame they are hitting the frame.
I thought it would be a simple straight swap🤨

Have a search on old posts relating to this, there were quite a few swaps done back in the day when these H trims came out 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Should fit, but you'll need a different switch panel - square corners. Original RRS switches are required.Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

Assuming this photo is yours, perhaps try removing the hazard switch pack temporarily and refitting to see if it is this that's stopping it fitting.

The RRS switch pack you need to swap yours for is YUL500570WUX which you can pick up for £10-£20 on eBay06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

That 'should' fit. Are any of the metal clips still in the dash 'holes' as well as being fitted to the prongs on the H trim?
Oh, and note that the hazard switch pack is available in either a grey or black version - and I believe the button layout can also vary according to trim level, so match carefully. That aside, they are 'plug & play'Long succession of Disco's since 2001...

I tried the removal of switch panel but still not possible.
The metal studs are hitting the frame if only it is possible to make holes there for them to slot into.
Is this often a problem??
I purchased an all piano black one couple of years ago and that just went on without any problems.
But this genuine 2007/08/09 one doesn't.

Just looked at pics again and have finally seen the metal tab at the bottom.
Is it me or has it moved out of true?
It looks like it is pointing down not at 90deg?
Also looking at the 1st pic and the last one above, your one looks like it is not pushed up into the dash top properly?
There is no gap between the dash and the air vents in the bottom pic but there is on yours.Series 1 V8

I remember when I fitted a set to my old D3 there was a similar issue as you describe, I had to drill an additional hole in the frame to allow the 'H' frame to fit correctly.

This is what I'm thinking to drill a hole either side for the top metal ends to go into the frame.
Did you use anything special to cut the holes out as the frame goes off at angle?
