Pleasantly unexpected MPG
40 mile commute to work, mix of country A/B roads and A1 at steady 70-75mph with traffic, and got this MPG on arrival.
and yes, i know the onboard calculations can be a bit over optimistic but please dont ruin my day

And no, it wasn’t going down a hill. It was a honking great mountain, from Port d’Envalira (Andorra) down.

Impressive. Of course, from a mountain down is just vertical. You’re not actually getting anywhere !
Using that logic you could do an infinite amount of MPG by driving off the edge.
I regularly get 35-37MPG showing on my trip computer on a run, even with 4 people in the car, but tend to stay just under 70mph for the motorway. I’m quite happy with that as probably slightly better than my previous car 2.2 diesel x-trail. Compared to my Brother-in-law’s 68 reg Ford Kuga with a 1500cc petrol engine that is very good (low 30s)

Your profile is incomplete so we don't know what Disco you have.
Certainly 17 mpg is OK for a V8.

My computer regularly says over 35mpg with Duratrac ATs and a roof rack, however I’m not sure how true it is.

It means 42 in reality.
Sooooooo good getting mid 50s to low 60s mpg (actual) cf mid to high 20s for same type of driving.

I’m deffo not going to say anything bad re rail travel. Mainly as I’ll be off in a few weeks on a trip from my local station to about as far as you can go by rail, about 1/3 of the way round the planet.
Plus when you experience Vietnam Railways you never complain about good old BR.
