General advice please-2014 D4 |
|
1. Tried to remove the middle row seat headrests to put cover on and they seem a bit stubborn, didn’t want to force until I know that they can slide out of the seat completely. Is that the case?
2. The plastic trim below the windscreen that the wipers pass through has gone all milky. What’s the best to clean/restore?
3. Can you buy brake calliper covers?
4. Can you buy protectors for the painted sills at the bottom of the doors where the paint gets rubbed off.
5. How to safely and effectively remove glue from the headlights from discarded beam deflectors.
6. Anyone fitted a sunroof wind deflector and if so what make and cost please.
Enough for now! Thanks a lot for any help.

Headrests do come out, but there's a clip on each of the 'legs' that you need to press in. One is obvious, the other not.

Hello,
I can only offer you my experiences with several D4s but most is general.
2. Search this on the forum. I use a G Tech product which seems good but some people swear by peanut butter (seriously). Homework will answer this on here..
3. Not sure why you'd do this as surely the brake dust build up will be horrendous but EBay...
4. Yes. EBay
5. Megurs do some great headlight lens polishes. I'd use a plastic tool to scrape as much off and then polish...
There is so much on this forum when you search. I am sure you'll find the answers and so many more if you look.
Have this one on me if you haven't learnt... Ditch the locking wheel nuts. I was oblivious to the issues and when I came to remove them I only just got away with it...

As Brian said they do all come out. The not obvious one is buried in the upholstery/padding of the seat back just below where the "leg" goes in Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Thanks Oxford Boy. What exactly was the problem with the locking wheel nuts?

They shear off easily due to the cr*p design and right at the moment when you really don't want them to do it
A lot of us have binned them and replaced with standard wheel nuts. They look nicer too MY16 Landmark - Yulong White

Locking wheel nut failure. |
|
Hi Nick, thanks for the heads up on this. Just so I understand the exact problem so need to judge what to do. Are all D4 lock nuts the same, mine is 2014 with 19” wheels. Looking at a few other posts I think it looks like LR make a nut that they then superimpose the locking/ coded part, of different types onto, to give variety. And it’s that amalgamation that fails?? If the nuts were lightly lubricated would that be ok. My car has just been serviced by LR where the wheels would have been off. I will check mine soon. Do you get any advanced warning ( sloppy? ) or do they just shear unexpectedly. Sorry to labour the point but removing the wheel security seems like a big step. Cheers

If the locking nuts are in good condition then I'd leave them alone but over time they rust and start to perish. The key design means that they don't sit down fully on the locking nuts so any weakness is exposed and they can/do shear - often at the worse time possible.
The security side is valid but trying to pinch wheels from a Discovery is not an easy task due to the weight of the wheels and the potential to be injured doing it by rushing so any would be thief is generally put off.
It's down to personal opinion so really up to you but many just run with the normal nuts. MY16 Landmark - Yulong White

Also important to make sure you have an Uncle Ray spare wheel protector. The scroates are more likely to steal the spare wheel and ruin the winch mechanism

Yeah, it's rust that causes the problems. If they're in reasonably good condition I'd leave them on.
