Genuine service parts verses pattern parts |
|
Afternoon all.
I want to service my newly acquired Disco 3 doing the basics such as Oil, Fuel, Air + Pollen filters.
I've noticed there's a fair price difference between a genuine LR service kit and a Brit Part service kit.
My question is, are the Brit Part kits good enough to use or would it be best to fork out the extra for the LR kit.
I'm not tight (honest! ) its just money saved on this kit can be spent towards getting the hand brake serviced.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Mann or Mahle oil filter.
Air filter - Anything unless you off road
delhpi or Mahle fuel filter (don't pay over £15 though, if possible)
Pollen filter - note the white ones are NOT pollen filters, so if you are a family that suffers from hayfeaver stick to the black/grey filters.
I did however purchase a £20 filter kit when I got mine, and was very pleased. (£5 each), however using the above advise you can get the best compromise between price and quality

As stated above....
I always go for OEM (Original equipment manufacturer that is)
So you have;
- 1) Genuine LR service parts
- 2) OEM (same brand/manufacturer as above, but without a LR sticker/box (LR does not make filters, injectors, ECU’s etc. themselves)
-3) “house” /sellers own company “brand” remanufactured parts...
If you, like i do, use option 2, you save money, but have the best parts available...
My engine is too expensive to take the risk for unknown brands/parts..
And what i read here above, More people think like i do... Best regards
Harold

Hi Dave67
There are a lot of Different LR suppliers
We have a site sponsor here; advanced factors, where you can buy as a forum member, with a code to get some discount.. i normally have a first look there...
I prefer them for this kind of maintenance parts
But as said there are more suppliers with sometimes different prices for the same products..
Can be interesting to shop around..
If you Have a search Here on the forum, you will soon find out, what part is OEM
Supplier island4x4 do mention it on their site, same part, different options, genuine, OEM, alternative..
If you know what brand you need for OEM, you can have a look at our site sponsor or elsewhere Best regards
Harold

So if it's a Britpart OEM kit, Mike, would that come with filters from Mann, Mahle etc. or would it be Britpart branded stuff manufactured to the same spec as the OEMs? Kev

Always worth remembering that OEM only means "Original equipment manufacturer"
It does not mean original materials, specs, standards, quality control or factory.
There have been a lot of cases over the years where one manufacturer has acquired another lesser manufacturer and it has become an OEM overnight and still cranked out the same products.
If you can trace or prove provenance of OEM then it should be ok 05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system
12 RRS SDV6 HSE (Hers) - Gone and replaced with an I Pace - I can tell you now EV is not the future yet

This is where having a good working relationship with your local parts manager is valuable.
They will do a service/replace clutch/brake pads etc on a daily or weekly basis. Ask them if a genuine Part is essential or is OEM part is a suitable replacement or will a budget pattern part suffice. If they are a decent garage they will not want any work they do to have to be rectified at a latter date due to using poor quality parts.

All true.... so do not believe Ebay adverts (until proven otherwise), etc. and NEVER ali/china suppliers if they say OEM..
BUT... the essence is... Buy the brand that LR did fit themselves.... WHAT they put in their boxes with their LR label on it...
so if they fit VDO - fit VDO, if they fit MAHLE-fit MAHLE, if they fit Reinz-fit Reinz...
these OEM brands are in essence cheaper if you buy them without a LR sticker...
Disco-Mickey did give the clues for the filters as asked by the TO Best regards
