How much to add side steps and privacy glass to Discovery 4? |
|
Looking at buying a Discovery 4 and its perfect except it doesn't come with Privacy glass on rear windows and boot and no side steps, is this an expensive job to add later on?
Thanks

adding privacy glass could be done locally to you for probably around £200-300, maybe less or maybe more. You would have to google window tinters near you.
Side steps can be very expensive (genuine LR ones) or much cheaper aftermarket ones and are a DIY fit I believe. Try the usual places like Ebay, gumtree, facebook marketplace etc. or try www.powerfuluk.co.uk
They also come up 2nd hand on here occasionally. 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

I had tints applied to rear windows back in July 2016 by a local window tinting business, 95% tint, which cost £216, and am very happy with them. Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

Do some research on tints. There are some good if older threads on here (maybe lack of tints was more of a D3 thing hence the aged posts - you could do a search for a couple I did on this back when).
There are the legal requirements that you should consider, then common sense ones. I ended up going I think one less than limo on the sides to keep the heat down on dogs/children, but a shade lighter on the rear window to improve visibility. THAT was GREAT advice by the tinter as it turned out. You couldn't see the difference looking at the car because the interior was dark. Reversing at night with limo or a super dark rear window is a real pain.
(Oh - and if you don't need steps, don't add them. I've found them to be a nightmare rust trap and they'll end up falling off at some point when the brackets rust ) PAGODA

only other thing I would add is having got 3 vehicles in the fanily at the moment - one with limo tints, one with privacy tints and one with nothing I would not put limo tints on the rear glass again - total pain in the backside for reversing 05 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

I added side steps and tint to my 2013 D4 when I bought it - would highly recommend both.
Steps - cost me £295+VAT for supply and fitting.
Tints - Can't remember how much but well worth it so no-one can see what you have in the boot/back. Tip on the tints: best to have dark at the rear which gradually gets lighter (less tint) on windows as you go forward. This means it looks less like a van and in my opinion, looks fantastic.
