Rear timing belt or High Pressure Fuel Belt DIY for TDV6
My indi quoted me the magical figure of $3500 to do both belts. I thought even if I take a two weeks off work to do this it will be cheaper.
I thought that someone should put up some info on how to do this back belt. The front timing belt already has some great guides and isn’t hard to do. This is hard especially on the body.
If you have never done this belt before, your in for a real treat, it took me 4 afternoons to do and patience beyond measure. My car is a MY06 with a MY09 motor so some things are different.
This is a job that is doable but you have to be very patient and not lose your mind. Just take it slow it can be done and will save you a lot of money.

Lets go.
You have to remove the battery and the covers over the rear control boxes and remove all the connections on the first box then the first 2 connectors towards the engine on the second box.

In this pic you see there is a cover that is split and at the back there is a tab on each side you depress and wiggle them out. You will have to remove at least the 2 bottom ones. This is difficult to do. The wiring Lome has to be able to move. This was my first afternoons work.

You then have to undo this fuel line to give you more room. Working out what to do to get the cover out took the rest of this afternoon 2. And then going to buy the tools.

Next you have to remove this rubber pipe. Because of the angle it is on I bought a locking hose clamp tool which made it a breeze to get off and on.

Remove the clips at the top. It slots into the bottom. Again this is different year to year with these covers. You then have to wiggle the cover out. It does come out be patient it will come out.

To remove the belt. I used a 10mm spanner that I bent inwards towards the motor to get onto the tension-er bolt and used another to lock it together to break the tension on that bolt. Then used a ratchet spanner to remove the whole thing. Afternoon 3.

Getting it back together. Run the belt around the gears first, make sure the top of the belt is tight and on the teeth right with no slack. Then slide the tension pulley up and into place. (Has to be done this way can’t be slide on after.) I found that getting the tension pulley into place first so it is placed flat and slid into the tab without the bolt is the easiest way to do it. Then put the bolt in and tighten it up to 24 N (I just did it up until it felt as tight as I dare to go). Recheck the belt and make sure it feels like it is on properly. Then pull the pin out.
With patience once again wiggle the cover back on and put everything back together. Afternoon 4.
Your done. You will have the scars on your arms and back of your hands to prove it.

It's a pity I can't add a video showing the detail of the install. I know I missed some things but I did the job 2 months ago and have been meaning to put this up but only got time now.

Yes, I did see and use his guide as well as other bits and pieces from other sites but mine was diffrent and I had to remove other things to get the cover out that wern't mentioned anywhere. This is a very frustrating job to do, you cannot see anything. I thought a bit more of a guide would be helpful to others. Hopefully others can put up Pics as well.

It was easier to just pay my indy $1200 to do the job - I supplied the parts including oil pump so all up about $1500.

When I did both of mine 7 years ago, I took it nice and steady like you, Front belt one day and the rear belt the next day.
Those 7 years have flown by and now they are due again! Stu
