Engine Oil Specification

Apologies if this has been discussed at length before but couldn’t find anything that fully answered my query. There are lots of engine oils recommended for our cars but they don’t seem to meet the requirements fully. For the 2.7 TDV6 my manual says 5W/30 ACEA B1 or B3. The only oils I can find that meet the B1 or B3 specification and are 5W/30 are brands I’m not familiar with and not available in places like Halfords. What do people recommend? Aware that these engines need looking after especially when it comes to oil and oil changes. Thanks in advance.

Ignore the C1/C2/B3 etc. labeling and look for the Ford codes. Halfords do usually carry them and Mannol oils on Amazon are frequently on offer and we'll respected.

Thanks. I’ve seen the Mannol oils come up on Amazon but never used them before. Might give them a try. Mobil 3000 seems to come up as a common recommendation (without meeting B1, B3), think it’s good for the Ford requirements. Cheers.

Personally I think the original Ford specs (especially for the D3)are well and truly obsolete nowadays. Most of the current oil specs have way better performance targets than what the Ford spec aimed for. Heres some info I presented earlier

+1 Thumbs Up

I’ve yet to find better value oil than Smith and Allan. As recommended on here and the sister FFRR site amongst many other places.

https://www.smithandallan.com/

They also have a very knowledgeable and friendly technical dept.
