2014 D4 7 seater spare wheel options?

Hi, can I temporarily put a full size spare wheel under the car for when I go abroad with the caravan in tow? I know it will reduce off road departure angle but a proper spare would be preferable. Also can I fit a spare wheel protector particularly to the small/temporary spare? Thanks.

i'd be surprised if a full-size spare affects departure angle ... and even more surprised if anyone would steal a skinny spare. just my opinion.

get a wheel protector off RLD in any case.

Yes to both, many on here including me have permanently done away with the space saver for a full size spare. Done so on 2 x D3 and a 2015 D4 Thumbs Up

So I'd get hold of a full size spare and keep it permanently with a spare wheel protector

Spare wheels.

Ok guys thanks that’s great. Because mine is a 7 seater and had a space saver I thought that a full size spare would be lower than a normal 5 seater but perhaps it’s just a cost/weight saving. Will procure a full size 19” alloy and protector.

It’s a cost saving thing mostly, I think. After all, the LR alloys do cost something as new. In some markets the full size came as part of a package (at least USA HD package and in Scandinavia the commercial 2-seater had it like that).

Indeed - I’ve purchased rims from here with great success. Also I got rid of 4 D3 19” HSE alloys and tires yesterday Whistle

I always carry a full size.

No chance I would be relying on the space saver.

I’ve never been stuck because of a full sized spare. You’d tear your bumper off first, as I almost did a few times. The space saver doesn’t save any space, just increases LR’s profit margin. Madness to rely on the skinny spare. A single wheel & good tyre can be picked up cheaply here and on Fleabay, just remember to fit an Uncle Ray’s Protection Plate in case some pond life decides to steal it.
