Smart Key Problems

Hello all. Firstly, I apologise for posting this on this forum. But for some reason, since I registered on the babyRR forum a few months ago, I have been unable to submit my posts. After I have composed a post and click the submit post button, instead of the post being posted, I get an error page stating SQL error etc. I have tried using different browsers, but still getting the same error! No idea what's wrong. Besides, this forum seems to have more threads about smart key problems.

So, both smart keys to my Evoque (MY 2012) no longer work (do not open/close doors or arm/disarm the car). One of the keys never worked when I bought the car (second-hand recently) and the other worked intermittently (but now not working at all). I even changed the batteries to new ones but didn't resolve the problem. Took the car to my independent specialist who diagnosed no output from the keys. He found one of the keys had the lock button missing internally (the key that was not working to start with) and the other key (the one that was working intermittently until recently) circuit board showing signs of moisture damage (he suspects the previous owner probably replaced the key case with an aftermarket case which probably did not seal the inside properly). Anyway, his conclusion is that the car needs 2 new keys, which can only be done at a main dealer as it will also require KVM to be replaced and reprogramming. I am based in London and estimated cost is £900 (parts and labour)!!! Any tips/suggestions please?

Searching the web for replacement keys I came across some websites that the guys will come to you and replace/reprogram the keys, and speaking to them I was told I do not need the KVM to be replaced as suggested/required by Land Rover. Anybody had any experience with these websites/companies that will replace and reprogram your smart keys? Do they work or do you have problems later? Thanks

Hi. Don't know what DTC codes mean, but my mechanic (Land Rover specialist) stated he did some code reading and found nothing against the keys. His exact statement on the invoice was "carried out diagnostic code read for key problems. No faults logged for keys." Thanks
