Tyre pressure monitoring and 18" wheels

So I am looking to buy a second set of 18" wheels from compomotive to fit with some BFG MT's for greenlaning/the occasional play day on my D4. The 20" wheels I will be keeping and just having standard all year road tyres on as typically its used as a dad/mum mobile I have to confess.

My D4 has this tyre pressure monitoring system I speak of. Can I swap and change wheels on it like I do on my D2 without worry or is there some special thing I have to do. Its a lovely car, but its very very electronical and I fear breaking some sensor or some such that will cost me hundreds and hundreds to repair.

Also changing the wheels over, how is this done? Ive heard it has to be in off road height?

I have two sets of wheels and both work with the TPMS. Both sets have the TPMS valves that communicate with the car.

How does it work? Are the valves connected to the car somehow? I hope it's possible to get pd1881s with tpms

Each tyre has a coded sensor on each valve within. This transmits a signal to a antenna with the required data. Different years have different systems due to EU regs changing.

If you want the TPMS on your new wheels you will either need to use the 4 from your old wheels (Kind of defeats the object of having a second set), another set or you live with the warning that will come up if you don't have them (will disappear after start up). If you use another set, the system needs a steady drive above a certain speed for a certain distance for it to collect the relevant codes and required data to work.

The LR TPMS valves fit perfectly in the Compomotive PD1881’s. 👍

Thanks very much for the info guys. I should be able to get another set online somewhere and install them in the PD's.

I haven't got the PD's yet, but I will probably splurge on them come summer time I suppose. Hopefully get a decent deal for a set of 5.

Have a word with Barry who runs Compomotive and tell him you’re from the forum. 👍

Just make sure you get the correct ones, they changed them around 2014/15, up till then they didn’t let you know the pressures, later ones did, there is a thread on regarding it.
Be careful with on line auction sites though, you could end up paying more.
