Broken crankshaft
Hi,
Just a short question: What is needed to change when standard failure occurs(broken crankshaft)?
Is the motor totally gone or is enough to change shaft, bearings etc.etc.?
All best/johnny

The block will be warped and as the man says, its scrap. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ
Is this a hypothetical question, or have you suffered a broken crank - I hope the former.

Hi,it is a hypothetical question fortunately and hope it stays as such...but reason for asking is that I see discos here now and then with broken cranks and just wanted to see how big the cost is to fix it...just in case I was able to pursuade my wife to driva disco...

theres talk on here of a new LR engine costing £16k...to replace...and the famous LR extended warranty company...see a broken crank as a known fault and wont pay out..(the warranty costs £1100) a year...so if your of a nervous disposition have a large drink and consider.

They have never been £16k
At their height, the prices of the 3.0 T/SDV6 were about £12k.
At the moment, you can buy a genuine LR short engine (part number LR038168) £5k + VAT. They have gone up slightly recently as they were about £4.5k at their lowest. Obviously you then need to add in any associated labour.
For a rebuild, you're looking around £5k all in.Kev

Then also adding freight/vat/custom fee for us living outside UK so for a car here with destroyed motor,it is not worth while.

That's something you have to consider. Also, the likelihood of it happening when you consider the many thousands of vehicles on the road.Kev
