Spare Key

After a long period away (mostly on defender2.net, after I switched the disco for a defender) I'm now back with another Disco 3 - a 2006 fairly standard beast (and I still own the defender Rolling Eyes )

The Disco 3 came with one key, which the seller had refurbished. I'd like to get a spare.

I'm sure this has been done to death, and I have searched the internet and this forum, but mostly come up with refurb or dealer options.

What's the best way to get a spare key cut, and programmed to the car? Is it a dealer only job?

Thanks!

Jimbo

Thanks NJSS.

I'm just outside Southampton.

I had found that thread before, and I might be wrong, but I think Adam does refurbs, and does not cut & code new keys? Mine has already been refurbed, it's a spare I'm after Very Happy

Only had one key with mine when i bought it which was not the best. Went on www. got a local vehicle lock smith who did a new fob and new spare key including coding for £160 ish. Be sure to check the newly cut key in the passenger side door lock, the new one cut would work in the ignition but not in the emergency entry door lock.

I had a similar thing when I got one, one, not very healthy looking, key.

I've had two off ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-COMPLETE-La...2749.l2649

Got them cut at a local cutting place, and once programmed with IID all work exactly as they should. Can't fault them.

Ive used these on my D3 and have been great

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Key-Fob-Remote-...SwS3dfDzLk

They also can cut them for you, not sure if they can do it from a picture like some as I was nearby so dropped in, and had two done.

Had them over a year and still work OK, programmed with the IID so also have both my old worn ones as spares.

Thumbs Up
 Must stop buying shiny toys....

All noted, thanks chaps. I'll get hold of another remote, and get them cut and coded in!

Having struggled to find someone local to do it I used these guys when I only had one key for my previous Disco, worked perfectly once coded by DM (I didn't have my own IID at the time)

Very fast service...
