Doesn't look like much in that photo, but it got a lot steeper and rougher. I had heard that this lane was generally suitable for all.

That information came from back in summer however... Despite this, the Disco 4 didn't struggle in the least, considering its on 20" rims with bog standard pirelli all seasons. It was a very whimish, stupid, and impulse thing to do and I regret it now as I could have got myself into some issues. But in low range, mud and ruts mode, it literally powered through it with no struggles (none I was aware of anyway). Suffice to say... I got it out of my system, next time I go, I will have proper tyres and at least one other person...

Cool but not a good idea going out on your own down any lane solo....

You're very very right about that soloing lanes is not advisable. What makes it so boneheaded is that I AM a member of GLASS and have been for about 3 years. I haven't gone out laning in about 10 or 12 years though. It was like riding a bike, it all came back to me.

I'm in Devon at the moment at my inlaws house for Christmas, so when I get back home to S-Wales in new year I shall be going out again in the Disco 2 with others in my club (once I get the STT pro's fitted, and the diff lock warning light fixed!). I will not do a stunt like this again, but curiosity at what the Disco 4 could do got the better of me... That itch is now scratched. Mr. Green

Worth it for access to the Trailwise site that shows the legal status of rights of way, TROs and notes from members who have driven them.

The listings of the 'antis' trying to close down lanes makes part of the magazine depressing reading (the rest of it is excellent).

And you get some stickers... And maybe a discount on insurance for being a member...

What more can you ask?

Thanks HWN - Good tip
(will be especially useful/interesting to get the tips from people who've actually driven the lanes!)

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss laning alone.

Ok, so it brings risk, but it's not the big evil end of the world action people make it out to be. As long as you are prepared and have suitable contacts for recovery you'll be ok.

Personally I wouldn't risk the big wheels and thin tyres walls on a lane, but sounds like you've worked that out, as for ability, the D4 will take 99% of what a green lane can throw at it and carry on as if it's not there!!
