15 Years Old and Just Passed MOT |

Hip hip hooray. The preventative maintenance is still paying off. Passed the MOT with just one small advisory - slight play in lower ball joint. Not bad for a car that has done 176000 miles.
To make me even more pleased - noticed a D5 for the first time this evening - cant say I liked the look at all. Still love the D3/4 look, but I have had this one since new, so it remains special and me somewhat blinkered. Perhaps if I drove a D5 I would see it differently. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Almost 12 and a half and 160,406 miles on mine. Passed last week with only 3 advisories.
Which are being investigated later this month when it goes in for the last of the preventative work to see it way past 200k.
It's here to stay so will get it all fixed up and run/improve it with mods and enjoy it.
Feels good to have an early one that's in fine fettle.

Mine turned 11 in April with 172,000 and passed with no advisories last week. It does need a new wheel bearing though.
Like the op I also sat behind my first D5 on the M74 for a bit the other evening and thought no thanks. Even though it looked a pretty basic model I'm not surprised it's the first I've seen on the roads. It's just not a good design imo.
The D3 caught my eye years ago when they just looked superior to most other cars around. Now it's the XC90 which stands out to me. It's got real presence. Happy to keep my D3 going till the XC90's residuals make a used one affordable and glad it's worth keeping, but I doubt I'll buy another LR. Hoping my son can use it when he starts driving though. It'll be good to know he's in something safe. VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

As someone who put nearly 250k miles on his first car (a Peugeot 205)... and who is nervously contemplating buying a D3, but terrified by all the stories of horrendous repair bills and and issues... this is good to read
I've always loved the look of the D3, and never dreamed I'd be able to justify owning one. To be honest, it's still a bit hard to justify, but I might be bitten.
I'm curious, in people's ownership, what's the worst issue/bill you've been hit with?

Some will say it's the cost of a replacement engine following the oil pump casing failure. Mainly 06 - 08 models ,but also to a much lesser extent on earlier models. Simple answer is to invest in a new (later type) pump. The Citroen FoMoCo one is exactly the same as the LR one, but around half the price.
Suggest you have a look at the numerous posts on this forum relating to oil pump. Don't let this put you off though, as the Disco is a great grin provider and a joy to drive. 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Thanks for replies. Yes, it is a keeper. I may be too old already for it to become a classic under my ownership As for cost of ownership, a combination of this website, my DIY skills, access to Geoff and it has not been too painful. It would be easy now the D3 is in partial retirement to miss out on serving and preventative maintenance but I will keep on top of it. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

Having a 65 plate D4 (with 28,500 miles and now adding to it at 30-40,000 a year, until destruction), this is all very encouraging!

My service last month was the "big" one (all belts changed) which tends to be one you want to avoid financially.
Got to go back for leaky engine sump and steering rack. 12.5 yo and 150k miles. Think it's doing great. Only thing I notice over other cars is that suspension part replacements seems more frequent, but then it is much heavier than other cars.

Well 10 years old and only 62000 miles on the clock. Had it since new and since Mikey has serviced it its reliability has increased out of all recognition. So much for main dealers. Up to Dundee next month for the annual service and all oils changed and yes it's had a new oil pump fitted.
