strange noise in off road height
I periodically go through all the off road features on my D4 when parked on my level drive to make sure they are functioning ok.... 4x4 info, TR modes, low range, ride heights etc.
last night in off road height I noticed a buzzing noise coming from the rear nearside behind the wheel, like a fuel pump working away.
all 4 corners rise and fall ok, no noise from the compressor and nothing else to raise suspicions.
anyone have any clue what It could be? don't think its a faulty air bag but im no mechanic.
TIA

Thought the compressor was under the bonnet and fed the air down to each corner ??
does each corner have it own compressor ??

No, the compressor is electric, and lives under a plastic cover just in front of the N/S rear wheel. When you raised the suspension, the compressor was running to replenish the reservoir. Richard

...don't play with or it will break. Just use it if you need it.
and, advisable not to raise /lower with brakes on or EPB set as it strains the suspension joints unnecessarily.2011 MY D4 HSE

I rarely use the EPB unless im in a slope, my drive is flat so its left in park. I check it all about once every 6 weeks or so and don't often use access height either.
so the noise is normal then ?
many thanks for all the replies 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

im on about the UK RHS not the continental one
on the LHS (UK Passengers side ) is the big heavy sparky thing
on the RHS (UK Drivers side ) there is what I thought was the compressor for the suspension but I was apparently wrong.
so any clues please folks?2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

that mystery box also doubles up as the soundproof box they mounted the alarm in, just so it doesn't wake anyone up if your car is being nicked.

well mines not very soundproofed then
thanks rrhool
so does each corner have it own compressor or just the one at the rear passenger side to feed all 4 airbags?
and should it be making a buzzing noise in off road height ?2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Just the one for all 4, I don’t tend to hear mine unless I’m stationary but it may be that the rubber mounting buffer bits are perishing.012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)
