Problem with steering angle sensor?

The missus has rung me with a problem while I’m at work!

First part was she told me it locked up out of nowhere and then it binded a bit when I had a go. Now when I clear the faults it goes about 20 yards and then the hdc inactive and suspension lowered messages come on.

Read the faults and most say no communication with steering angle sensor and I can’t remember the one for the ride level sensor.

There are 3 orange lights on the dash. One is the suspension one and don’t know the other 2.

The steering angle sensor can come loose and can be fixed. Check this site for how to repair it

"U" codes are information only and can generally be disregarded but they do indicate possible sympton.
The "C" and "B" codes are the ones.
C1B00 is related to the steering sensor so that is possibly loose.
B1B74 is related to a possible stepper motor problem on the heater

The one to fix is the steering sensor

have you had the suspension aligned recently..?
sometimes it can be left in 'tight mode' by mistake.. that throws up suspension errors..

its just a thought..

Here’s a video of the SAS.

https://youtu.be/OIYX_yKnHuY

Does it look like it needs gluing? While I was turning the wheel the lights came on again.

You cant really see it on the video..
IRC - try putting some resistance against the white 'collar'. If the steering column turns and the white collar 'drags' or 'sticks' you should see it. and then you will need to fix it Thumbs Up

Do you have access to a gap tool to monitor what the sensor is doing in live values test, also is it 0 when dead ahead straight

To my eye, the SAS looks to be turning as it should in that video. Looking at the live readings as you turn it will help as suggested. Resetting it wont hurt either.

Hi there,

I had this exact problem last year. It was the Steering Sensor needing recalibration (very easy to do with an IID tool. Simply straighten the wheels and press recalibrate on the IID and your done.) After doing this I haven't had this issue again.

Its would be worth taking it to a Indy with a diagnostics and just paying them to do it as the Disco isn't really safe if it decides to do this randomly.

Too right - its downright dangerous when it does this. I can never believe how the D3 collapses its suspension and limits speeds to 50mph for random faults. Imagine that in the outside lane of a motorway!

All sorted. Got a used SASM from a breakers and got a local mechanic to fit it while I was away at work.

Just done 350 miles to London without it popping up again Smile

At least that stayed sorted, unlike the gearbox!
