Fault slow fill on suspension
I have an intermittent fault on my suspension fault code reads “slow fill” this comes on after about 30 seconds, but if I turn off the car & restart it normally does not reappear, I have all the special functions available but cannot raise or lower the car, the car does not sink overnight or when parked. Just as an aside it’s always done something quite strange which is to drop to access height when locked, but this is not every time I lock it, it will also drop to access height when unlocked usually when opening one of the doors or the tailgate.
It had a new compressor just under 3 years ago before I bought it, this fault is not always happening & happens less if at all in the summer, I’m just wondering if the cold wet weather could indicate a problem with the drier element.
Anyone used one of the repair kits you can get which has seals & new piston etc, I don’t want to go down this route if it’s not going to work, conversely I don’t really want to spend £300+ for a new compressor if it can be fixed?
I’m a pretty confident amateur mechanic so not daunted by much, any help much appreciated.
Before everyone gets onto me that this is already covered in another thread I cannot seem to find it, & I’ve looked.

Hole in the air tank.. audible and visual check.
Possibly get a seal rebuild kit for the valve blocks..
Check the sensor wiring - especially behind the front arch (at the bulkhead side)
Without codes to assist you are just going to be throwing money at it.. Hence my cheap places to start looking...1 TR6 Rusting away quietly
1 FARR UTV SOLD
1 International Harvester SOLD
7 x D3 all SOLD
2 x D4 both SOLD
1 x Mrs D4 'Panther' SOLD
1 x Outlander van SOLD
1 continual stream of car parts and me living in the garage...

I had similar, changed the dessacant in the filter... All good, allot cheaper than changing the compressor - would advise getting the kit with the new alloy end cap

Hi morganD379
Thanks for that will look to get one, I presume that you have to take compressor off to do this as pictures I’ve been looking at show the desiccant as a whole load of beads with filters grills at bottom & top.
Where did you get yours from? Are they the same for all compressor types?
Cheers Tom

As above - Have you checked your tank doesn't have a leak.
They rust out as they are located on the nearside chassis rail under the passenger front door.
Get your ear down there with the engine running and listen for hissing.
They rust out on the welded joint as all the road crud lands there.
Codes are also very useful

Hi sea raider
If the tank was leaking I’m not sure why it is intermittent, would the suspension not go down as the air leaked out?

No.. compressor can remain in place.
- Release lower cover, and raise upper section out of the way.
-Remove small grub screw that holds the Desiccant/air dryer unit, (use a small screwdriver phillips with a small spanner-fiddly, but doable..)
-Release air pipes
-adjourn to bench to change end cap and beads and filters. Use a good screwdriver to remover large phillips screws, ( an impact driver with correct bit gives good purchase on the screws).
This is one of a number of companies that sell the the kit:

Thanks everyone, once I get paid I will get one to do it.
I just went out in car & no warning light, as I said it’s really intermittent & so very annoying.
Cheers Tom
