Well after many months and a lot of research I have finally got my IC fixed.
After the last thread I put on here I looked up the Russian (?) post on the resoldering of the two chips and decided it was worth following up, I translated the Russian post courtesy of Google and decided I didn't want to attempt to desolder and resolder the chips myself, I rang around locally and found a computer repair shop who said that would be no problem.
When I took it in he backed away at the chips because of the amount of resin coating on them saying the removal of that would be too risky but he did say that my resoldering of the connector pins wasn't as good as it should be so he would desolder them and resolder.
Picked it up yesterday, total cost AUD$40, installed it and since then have done over 150km and not a problem so I am very confident problem is now solved.
