Just bought Ring driving lamps for my 2010 Discovery 4 gs. The lamps are fitted with 55w H3 bulbs, and require a 30 amp relay and 15 amp inline fuse. Are there any issues fitting these lamps to my car?

Hi,
I am sure someone with more experience will be along shortly. But in the meantime, my understanding is that if you are only using the switch feed to the high beam to trigger the relay, therefore negligible load, and the feed for the lamps is from the battery, then there shouldn't be an issue.
If youre wiring them to a separate switch then there shouldn't be an issue as it is all direct from the battery.
I am an electrician, but not the auto flavour, so in theory based on my understanding, the above should be correct, but every day is a school day so I am happy to be corrected if I am wrong. Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

Thanks for that, I am waiting for a local auto electrician to get back to me. When I spoke to him on the phone he was unsure if the lamps could be fitted, telling me he would need to do some research. Perhaps he can't be arsed doing such a small job.

Mine has Hella Units mounted to the front bumper inside the ABar
Wired into the Main beam circuit with a switch mounted next to the gear selector
Not a Genuine setup but all works without a problem! Must stop buying shiny toys....

I just want a simple connection from battery to a handy switch. I am expecting a call from local auto electrician who may or may not try to bamboozle me with how big the job will be. Thanks for your response again very helpful.

Hi,
Are you in Padiham near Glossop? If so I could have a quick look for you, I am near Holmfirth. I can explain how to wire, if someone can confirm that this wouldnt affect any ECU's etc. I would assume not as it is direct from the battery. Discovery 4 GS 2009 Auto Stornoway Grey

If you’re not running it through a module then it’s just standard auto electrics. Lots of LR extras are installed in the traditional auto electrical way. I have the optional LR DRLs on mine and apart from feeding the wires through the bulk head, it was a doddle and simple electrics. They are even wired into a spare switched fuse in the CJB so they turn off with the ignition. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)

Great advice from you all. Padiham is near Burnley Lancashire. Don't know if I am confident enough for DIY, historically I usually make a complete balls of the most simple jobs. To address this short coming I have enrolled in a basic car maintenance class at night school. Local auto electrician has yet to get back to me, therefore, I am assuming business is good enough to ignore small jobs. Many thanks for your prompt responses.

I have seen on fleabay that you can buy a kit to do this, that contains a switch, relay, fuse, wire and instructions.
I also suspect Halfrauds would do this, or any good car parts factor.
With this it should be possible to do it right first time.

Hi, you're only an hour from me,so if you don't have any joy with the auto electrician, let me know. If you're up for it you could come to me one weekend whilst I am working on my D3 or the wife's RRS and I could instruct you on what to do and give you a hand if you need one. Or I can just give you telephone support, Skype etc.

I will contact auto electrician again on Monday. If the job is too small for his attention, I will be in touch. Thanks for your kind offer.
