Lower tailgate support cable

I would appreciate help please. My nearside lower tailgate support strap has obviously got caught, and the outer rubber sheath is frayed and the cable damaged. I have located a replacement cable complete with spool, and I can see the edge of the spool in the slot that the cable travels through.
My question is how do I remove the side panel to access the spool? Please keep answers simple folks as whilst reasonably practical folks, as I am a “lady of certain years”, and would appreciate a step by step idiot guide. Very Happy
Many thanks

Hi softuk if you gave a general area you are in then probably someone in your area would probably be able to assist you in replacing the cable Thumbs Up

That is very kind of you, but I really don’t want to put anyone to inconvenience, particularly at this time of year.
I’m sure there must be a LR topic page that details the procedure?
The cable is taped at the moment, but there is a kink in the wire, so it’s a case of being extra careful when closing the tailgate.

Hi softuk,

To be honest its going to be a bit of a pfaff to remove the side panel and upper "D"pillar trim to get to the spool. The boot door seal also needs to be partially pulled away.
Often the removal is the easy bit, but reassembly can try your patience especially if any of the retaining trim clips break, which they will!! Trim removal tools will help but I would agree with Hot Tub it would be much less painful for you to get a forum member to help.

I'd pop around myself but I'm not sure I'd make back home for Christmas Laughing

Your kind offers of help are really appreciated, but really all I need is to know where the fastening screws and clips are positioned, and if at all possible a link to relevant the Land Rover Topix sheet.

To everyone who offered help and advice, my sincere thanks.
At last, over the Christmas holidays I had some free time, so the replacement part was duly ordered from Rimmers, and equipped with the instructions that Brian_DL13 kindly provided, this morning I duly set about the task.
Removing the lower back flap wasn’t a problem, as I’d replaced this a year ago, after the original had been well chewed by a boisterous Labrador pup.
All went very well, the removal of the clip on cover over the cubby hole that stores the jack etc helped, and also having smaller hands meant I could access the reel. Old one removed, new one fitted. Panels back. Only slight problem was the small L shaped bracket at the top by the door seal. This slides over a clip and two pins top and bottom need to be aligned. Not entirely happy it is completely correct, but as all other clips are relocated and in position correctly ( none broken) I am presuming it is.
Cable now working correctly. Close examination of the bottom door section retaining fastener revealed some slight grooves, so am guessing that the cable had somehow got caught over the top of this and that is what caused the damage.
Again my thanks, and a Happy New Year to all.
