Extended Warranty question |
|
Hi all, in order to prepare myself for later today, would appreciate info from anyone with past experience on this.
Car is a 2014 D4, purchased 6 weeks ago from a main dealer but not my local dealer. Comes with 1 year LR extended warranty (actually I also purchased a 2nd year at the same time).
Few minor issues noted in the first week of ownership, called the local dealer (so not the one I purchased it from) to have it looked at, they could not give me a slot with a courtesy car until yesterday (so now 6 weeks into ownership).
Car is with them now, hoping to pick it up today.
I am almost certain they are going to try to charge me £180 for diagnostics, even though I know that there are faults. I have in IID tool.
1 - Infotainment system regularly cuts out, there is a fault code on the vehicle, I checked the night before taking it in.
2 - Start Stop doesn't work - don't need a code reader to prove that, probably needs a new battery or second battery.
3 - Tailgate top hatch wont stay open properly (gas strut problem).
4 - Parking camera blurred, dirty inside, cannot get to it to clean it.
Clearly if I had spotted all of these on day 1 when buying the vehicle I would have insisted they were put right, but it's only after a few days you start to notice these things.
Surely after just 6 days of ownership on approved used scheme with warranty I would not be expected to pay £180 for them to plug the thing in?
I would also like to ask if anybody on the forum has a list or detail of the "165 point" checklist that these approved cars go through? Surely some or all of these items should have been picked up by that before selling?
Advice appreciated please? 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

Given the short time frame you should not have to pay anything . Any decent garage would just get on with it.

thanks mate I agree, interestingly I just found and printed out the 165 point list, its the US version but I imagine the same

clearly has start stop, parking camera, audio system and tailgate as items to be checked.
It's going to be an interesting conversation. 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

I had a persistent fault with an approved used D4, took a few return trips to the dealer to sort. Fault happened the day after we collected.
No costs to me and they sorted me out with loan cars.
Took a bit of aggro to sort as it only happened when towing but they did it eventually.
Also had a camera issue with was sorted not problem & utilised LR assist to fix a MAF issue at home when the dealer said 3 week wait.
They should sort you out.

In my limited experience of dealers managing issues under extended warranty, I believe they will only charge if their investigations conclude that the issue is not covered by the warranty. I imagine your issues will be covered, so the bill for diagnostic check gets added to the warranty company bill. MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

well I just got back, 3 out of 4 items covered by warranty, and will be fixed on another visit as they did not have the parts in stock.
4th item not covered by warranty. Item 2 on my list (stop / start not working) - battery is not covered by warranty.
Consequently they tried to charge me £180 for a diagnostic test to tell me that I needed a new battery.
After a "firm" conversation I drove out without having paid a penny, and will take it up with the supplying dealership, who have already indicated by phone they will resolve it.
One way or another I will get it sorted without cost, but they really dont do themselves any favours do they.
If I had not dug in today they would have relieved me of £180 just to tell me I need a new battery.
I already knew that, it was pretty obvious TBH, stop start not working.
and £180??
I imagine the new battery would be cheaper than that anyway.
Such a pity the service is so poor. It really takes the shine off a great car. 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey
