When I had that fault it was the filters in the compressor which had hardened (probably been soaked) So an overhaul kit fixed it.

So the fault was air not being able to pass through the Dryer.

Did you remove all caps before fitting the new compressor?

Did you fit a whole new compressor, Dryer as well or is the dryer the same?

Is the suspension lowering OK? if so check height level sensors.

When the compressor on my D4 failed it also blew the fuse (apparently it's a big one 60A or something) in the engine bay fuse box.

Probably worth checking.

Compressor is running mate so not sure if it would if fuse had blown? Problem appears to be communication with system Big Cry

Being a 2011, presumably, the original compressor was a Hitachi, and the replacement is an AMK?

If so, the RLM needs AMK firmware Thumbs Up

Have you re set the ECU? i.e. re set/cleared the fault code.

If it's going into extended mode when you try to lower it there has to be a blockage somewhere. If as you say everything is new then is it possible that a pipe has been pinched or a cap left in somewhere? failing that the rear valve block or the pipes between the compressor and the valve blocks.

Still could be a height sensor though If any one of them does not change the car thinks it's grounded and comes back up.

Guys, thanks for all the help and input.

Back from garage and still none the wiser and figured out that the replacement unit was faulty Rolling Eyes Came from BRITPART and although the metal casing was obviously AMK, the compressor/air dryer obviously was not Rolling Eyes which would account for so many things when trying to pair it. Anyway, still looking for the cause, we plugged the old compressor back in and low and behold it worked again Shocked no faults, no lights and warnings, just worked normally Laughing

So trying to make sense of it, the assumption is that there is a leak in the system/pipes and after a long, long ninja drive yesterday, the air compressor just couldn’t keep up and decided to sack it and stop working. We spent 12 hours driving from Hastings, via Hereford to Preston in Lancashire. So if it was a leak it would make sense that the compressor just couldn’t continue to compensate for that duration of time and stopped working Laughing

Still scratching my head as to why it started to work normally once it was plugged in again Rolling Eyes but hay ho, it’s working now and hasn’t lost any air so it gives me time to source a “GENUINE” AMK compressor and book it in for a complete inspection of the pipes and change of compressor when I’ve got more time.

As I said, thanks a lot guys for the help Thumbs Up

Not too sure about that mate. The air dryer had another manufacture name on it which wasn’t AMK Shocked The one that came off obviously had Land Rover label on it which means nothing Laughing Either way the unit wasn’t working properly and certainly didn’t want to communicate once it was fitted. Perhaps because it was faulty. Just very bizarre that the old unit would communicate and the brand new one wouldn’t ?

Compressor running indicator

One thing I did with my Disco 2 was to wire in an indicator flashing LED to show me when the compressor was running - so I'd get a warning of a leak.

I wired it to the feed to the compressor solenoid - and it flickered a lot, presumably picking up chatter along the Canbus. But flashed reassuringly when the compressor started.

I'm currently looking for a D4, the D2 having been written off by someone coming over the white line a few weeks back. I'd look to install a similar warning on the D4 - but probably seek to take the feed from the compressor itself, to try to avoid the flickering.

Seemed quite a simple, but useful, idea to me.........
