It’s tight tolerance mode but I don’t think you need that for tracking, if you have a 4 wheel alignment done then you will.

have just had my 4 wheel tracking done at Kwik Fit (although im reserving judgement on the quality of their work)
they didnt do anything special for the tracking but for removing the front wheels for balancing they put my D4 into off road height, opened the boot fully, and put the hazards on. Apparently this locks the suspension and protects the air bags
that was their reasoning anyway

Tracking is just the adjustment on the Track rods on the front wheels and is to align the front wheels. 4 way alignment adjusts camber, caster and toe which corrects the thrust line. The car should be in tight tolerance mode for this and done at normal road height. If the adjustments are carried out at any other height then the bushes will be under tension when at normal height and cause premature wearing.

I reckon you may have troubles ahead if they put it into off road height and adjusted it.

I think RogB is talking about just removing the wheels for balancing, not doing the tracking.
And that sequence - off-road height, open boot, turn on hazards - does sound like the instructions I seem to remember reading when wasting 5 minutes waiting for SWMBO and I flicked through the manual Uncle Ray's spare wheel protector

I see people mention tight tolerance mode in relation to a lot of alignment issues and keep meaning to ask - do people keep their engine running when this is done?
I'm sure if I put my D3 into tight tolerance mode it resets when I turn the engine off, so I'd need to do it with the engine running and leave it that way on the ramp, which I'm not sure if Kwik-Fit or whoever would be keen on?Cheers,
Gareth

No, once it’s in TTM it stays in TTM until it’s cancelled. Mine comes up in the cluster with a warning ‘Not in Customer Mode’ when you start the engine.

tracking was done at normal height up on the ramps with the fronts on floating disc plates
balancing was where they lifted it up and opened the boot etc.
i still think i may have troubles though as it was Kwik Cr@p after all

Great stuff - thanks.
Re. Kwik-fit, they have all of the right Hunter gear and my experience has mostly been positive with them. They offer a deal where you pay a small extra price (relatively speaking) and can go back for as many further alignments over a year as you want/need. With a Disco, this can be pretty cost effective!Cheers,
Gareth

i didnt opt for that as i thought they were taking the
£75 for front and rear tracking - £119 for a 2 year package which they reduced to £100 straight away for as many visits as i wanted, yes it was only another £25 but ive never had to take a car back more than once in my ownership for tracking.
but then this is the first air suspension car ive owned so maybe i messed up
