My top tailgate will not release, its an intermittent problem.
6 months ago I traced the problem to the micro switch and a broken wire. I fixed this and fitted a new switch and it was fine.
I started getting the intermittent wont open, read up here and most likely a lazy actuator. I changed this today but I still have the same problem.
I have a question to help with fault finding. Even if the switch is not working should I still be able to open the boot with the key fob?

Just to share it is fixed now.
I followed other threads and changed the actuator but that did not fix it. Sometimes it worked sometimes not.
I did discover that you can command an unlatch with the IID tool so that is worth knowing.
I also took a careful look at the symptoms, tailgate closed and latched but dash board showing olen. Drive it and often the problem would cure. So I tried banging the bottom tailgate from inside the car and the problem cleared.
I noticed there is a connector on the latch and its function is to tell the body control module that the tailgate is closed, I came to the conclusion that the switch was faulty.
So I changed the latch mechanism an now all is ok.
£68 for actuator and just short of £100 for the latch Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂
