D3 tail lights on D4?

I strongly dislike the Altezza looking D4 rear lights. I know it's possible to swap D4 to D3 with resistors, but can the opposite be done? In this case the D3 incandescent bulbs would draw more than the D4 circuitry would expect from the D4 LEDs.
