Integrated Aftermarket Nav in D3 using D4 GS Surround
Hi, spent a few hours today with the FIL putting a Garmin nuvi 3760T into my D3 without Nav. I ordered a D4 GS surround (LR013639) from The Large One (cheers Nick, very speedy even though you did not have stock)

All H Trim and new nav trim will be sprayed Brunel Chrome Grey to give the interior a lift and to make them match. The gap at the bottom of the new nav will disappear when the rubber mat goes back

First you need power, I used a halfords switched 4 port extension, took the cable from ciggie lighter, behind H Trim, up to the top glove box, then satnav cable across to the the centre nav hole

Next is the trim itself, the D4 mount points are slightly different from D3 but chop them anyhow as it is not worth chopping your current centre cubby out, this is how it comes from Nick

My nav lends itself to integration as it has a flat front

My nav is less good in the fact it needs its original back for the speaker and power cable, but these did hold it in

Attempt 1 used the mounts at the base of the D4 surround, but these need chopping away for clearance into your cubby hole, this trial run failed

I expect that you can do this with most navs that have a screen less than 118mm x 62mm(that is the gap in the new surround), using a variation on my mounting technique, even using self tappers into the nav if you wanted. My power button is on the top of the nav, however I dont need it as it also switched on and off with ignition. Failing all this have a D3 with factory satnav instead (I had in 2 D3s, and is real nice touch but dont rate it from a practical sense)

That's really good Dave I will order that surround now I know it fits! Dave just a thought, and what I'm going to do is get a mini USB extension so you can fit the traffic aerial with it's own aerial extension up on the dash near/on the window so it gets a signal then run the USB extension back down to the satnav. If you know what I mean! But it looks like a standard fit!

I cant beleive that I did not think of a mini USB extension cable, the hole in the back of the cubby could have been smaller then. The TMC aerial on my nav is piggy backed into the aerial that goes into the back of the stereo.Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:

Aye it's a big aerial to pick up the signal. Big wire too! That's why I'm going to use a mini USB extension so keeps wiring at the back of the console down, I have wires coming up to the console already to use with my tom-tom but they come up the front and I have trimmed away the front of the console and h-trim to allow the wires up to the tom-tom. This way when I sell the landy all looks normal with no holes showing, or that's the plan!

I have been told to order replacement parts using the part numbers on the instruction books, I will get around to it I am sure Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:

One question how is the surround held into the center console space - less I am having a thick moment cannot see this ?

Careful trimming with hacksaw and dremel, measure twice cut one means the surround is uber tight between the vents, too tight to squeak.

Yeah but Steve, the practicality that I am talking about is actual guidance, were you not awake on the return leg of the journey where we were going round the circular and not having a clue where Tim in Scotlands hotel was I think we had to drop him at the tube in the end?
