I received 2 smart keys when I collected my D4 a couple of weeks back and later on found that only one of these keys actually worked. Having replaced the battery (Duracell CR2032) this second key still didn't work and it wasn't recognised by the car when held under the steering column.
Having left the battery in the fob for a morning I have now found that this key works, but the car reports that the battery is low. Now it wouldn't be unheard of for a new battery to be low, but I'm thinking more likely is some sort of internal battery in the smart key that is possibly charged by the removable cell? As this key was potentially left in a discharged state for a number of weeks or even months this could make sense, but is my logic flawed?
Regards,
Steve

Disco 3 key fob have a battery that is soldered in and I have heard that the car charges the battery, almost sealed for life as you have to break the case to change it, it is not a CR2032, looks like they have changed it on the D4 as a CR2032 is not a rechargeable battery.

Thanks, I had read that too, so that's why I wondered if this might be a similar hybrid type system for the D4 keys. It was strange that the key initially wasn't recognised, so I was thinking I'd need the car reprogrammed to accept the key. At least that isn't the case.
I might know more when I drive home later as it'll have had longer to charge/settle in, if that's what it does.

Steve

D4 fob is powered by the CRC2032 battery and is not rechargeable like the D3.
I've had a similar low battery warning after changing a fob battery but after a couple of days the warning disappeared. I do keep a spare Duracell 2032 battery in the car just in case it decides to make another appearance.
From the Owners Manual:
If the low battery warning does not extinguish, it indicates that the replacement battery is not in a new or unused condition.

Thanks. I'll swap the battery with the spare I bought if I'm still getting the low battery warning.

I was up in town yesterday so on the push bikes and train, hence no update.
This morning I swapped to the second battery and no more low battery warning. Still unsure why it wouldn't immediately work after putting a battery in, but at least I now have 2 working keys.

Steve

A tip for you: when inserting a new battery, make sure that the thin plastic disc is first peeled off the battery.
Only a complete idiot would not do this and bin several perfectly good brand new batteries. And then thank his lucky stars that the bin was too full of other rubbish for SWMBO to see discarded brand-new batteries. 2014 - D4 2010 HSE Nara Bronze
