In the same situation. I have until the 23rd Feb. Then my full NCB will be lost again.

I still think that for sheer fun a KTM supermoto is hard to beat.
The 690 Street Slayer would be my choice, but an older Duke might be more what you’re after price wise.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

KTM 690 has been sized up. My ‘problem’ is I try a 690 and then want a 990 (had a 990 Superduke a few years back) and I don’t need such a big ‘bike and less likely to take a ‘big’ ‘bike out on a whim. First world problems, eh

For max. fun, keep it small(ish) and light. The last KTM supermoto I road was my best mates Duke and that must been well over 10 years ago I'd guess. It was hilarious, totally impractical and uncomfortable etc. etc. but totally hilarious.
He replaced that with a much bigger, more powerful and heavier Buell. Ultimately for short "blats" the Duke was way more fun.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Quick bump in case anyone selling as I’m about to buy ‘imminently’. Got half a dozen to view lined up (and they are all completely ‘different’, I really am open to trying pretty much ‘anything’ - old BMW R80 bobber conversion, nearly new Yam’ MT-09 and Suzi’ GSX-S1000, Ducati Scrambler, older mint Yam’ TDM900, pre-reg Aprilia Shiver 900 and a restored Zephr 1100 all in with a shout..... )
Anything going?

Finally, after a lot of research, many test rides of many, many, different brands (including the 'sportiest HD they do' and finding they are still anything but with atrocious seating position between pegs and bars , put that one to bed for good I reckon) I bought a Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, just 'right' on size/power, etc. for my needs and usage (fair weather blats under 100 miles or so max and occasional 200 mile round trip a couple of times a year).
The Desert Sled variant is just that bit bigger (taller suspension/seat and wider bars) than the standard Icon/Urban/Classic models and has some genuine 'green lane' capability if required.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401
I just bought a Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 for just such purposes. Brand new £3999!!! Built on the same line in Austria as the KTM 390, in fact the same bike with smarter clothes.....
Its quite slow, vibey (being a single) but also rather fun. I'm loving it. Not many bikes you can pick up for that kind of money.
2018 1.5Ti Skoda Octavia - dull as f&ck

I tried the Vitpilen (white arrow) 701 as it’s a work of art but like the KTM690/790 (that it shares the chassis with) it is just a bit too ‘svelte’ for me
The Vitpilen also has slightly dropped ‘cafe racer’ handlebars, again not ‘fitting’ me. However the newer Svartpilen 701 (Black Arrow) has higher ‘scrambler’ style bars. Basically for dark paint scheme, some bits of plastic trim and odds and sods it’s a £2k hike in price as 19MY new release model and that’s not great VFM in my book (and it’s still too svelte.....).
