No tips on PC, although since they're alloys you need to ensure they know what they're doing.

I took the way cheaper option of plasti-dipping my wheels to black. 2+ years later and a couple of sets of tire changes and scrapes and I'm amazed how well they've held up. I'll need to touch them up after the winter, but I think the total cost for what amounts to basically the same look was about £25 for all 4.

Maybe worth a thought.

If you haven't had these done yet might be worth giving The Wheel Specialist Manchester a call 0161 231 8337.

Full disclosure - I run the Farnborough branch, but Andy who runs Manchester is the Technical Director for the whole group, he's probably forgotten more about powder coating wheels than most places will ever know!

If you are going to go down the plasticote route make sure your surface is as clean and DRY as possible, you don't want moisture trapped under it. A thorough clean, paper dry then a hairdryer is what I'd recommend.

Alexrose - I am not far from Farnborough and have been thinking of getting my 19” HSE wheels done. How much do you charge for a set of four in a grey to match to car?

My wheels are the top two photos. I would love them to look like the bottom photo - sort of Matt finish rather than high gloss. Is that possible?

Mine.

Mine.

Would like great.

Want them to look this good.

Hi Richard, you are looking around £400 normally. There is also a branch in Fareham if that's closer. Might be worth popping in to see the colours we have on display if you aren't too far away.

I have nothing to do with the company but have seen their results - very impressive.

Thanks - I’ll pop that onto my list. It’s going off to Rovertune in Reading next week for a belt change and then to Bristol Transmission for a new torque converter the following day. Ouch. If there’s any cash left in the money box I’ll pop down to see you. Otherwise it’ll be a couple months down the line when all four tyres will need doing at the same time.

Good luck with that shopping list - I'm dreading having to take a trip to Bristol Transmissions myself!

If you're having them done professionally I would advise asking them to price the work based on fully finishing the inside of the rim too.

Most places just give the inside a dusting of the colour and the gloss coat which is much harder to keep clean, and never looks great. Less of an issue with this style of wheel but it also leads to corrosion setting in quicker.

I have the same style for winters and sanded them down, 2k primer, solvent basecoat, then 2k lacquer. They look good but a total b*llache to do. Wished I had just forked out the £250ish to have them done properly.
