Oil pump bracket just failed and fkd timing. Thots...?
Hi folks, well after a spell of bad luck in life, its decided to move to my car. Yesterday morning doing about 5mph, a couple of clunks and she cuts out. Rolled to a stop.
On inspection look like the oil pump bracket has snapped allowing the belt to slip fking up timing.
So, what do I do? Took her to a local garage who do work on LRs etc so they're not phased by a body off or engine swap etc. But I'm not sure how to progress?
Get them to strip the heads, new valves etc? is this body on or off? and do you need to do the back belt?
Just replace with new (secondhand) heads?
Replace the whole engine? ie is this a more cost-effective route with labour etc?
Sell her as is? ie is this worth doing?
Some thoughts would be appreciated guys, or even condolences. I could cry!
Cheers folks
A

Sorry to hear this.
You may not be aware but your vehicle year model is well known for this phenomenon and the recommendation is to always upgrade that pump when doing the belts. The forum has recorded dozens of similar failures so you're not on your own.
My heart goes out to you, you've suffered every owners nightmare. I hope you get it resolved quickly. Most owners usually go for complete engine replacement but some have stripped and sold on.
Good luck with it. Mods:

thanks mate, yeah, unfortunately, im aware of the potential danger lurking.......... always seemed to be more pressing matters and ill catch it at next belt change........... or not. Question is do i sink a pile of cash 2-3k fix or 4-5k engine on a car that's worth 7k 8k on a good day?

I’ve seen them going for £2000-£3000 depending on the spec.
