TDV6 cylinder head advice |
|
I have my beloved 89,000 mile tdv6, which may need the drivers side Cylinder head off.
I have 2x stuck glowplugs in the head and I'm thinking of just replacing the head as I'm going to use the old to rebuild a new TDV6 for my defender.
There are plenty of used heads out there, with the normal caveats, however I'm still undecided whether to for a new head and rebuild or a second hand, as I'll still need to skim the head possibly, and I have no idea how worn the camshaft journals get.
I've heard the hydraulic lifters aren't prone to wear but what about the camshaft journals. I can replace valve stem seals etc not hard but as the Camshaft has no bearings how long before you expect one to go.
could I use a 3.0 head on a TDV6 2.7 engine?
I have the engine rebuild specs. Camshaft journal out of round 0.01MM, max journal diameter 26.015MM
etc
Anyone done this, are the camshaft journals prone to wear...?

It’s much better if you just remove your head and replace gplugs.
Much quicker and the head thicknesses will be perfect match
You could replace the lifters as they do go noisy
Headgasket thickness is selectable at factory so note the notches at the front and order same again

There are specialist who operate on a mobile basis that will come out and remove stuck / broken glow plugs.
Be easier than taking the head off for no other reason

They probably charge £700 ?
Worth it if you still need the other side doing ?
Cheaper to whip the drivers head off yourself (if you have the tools )
