Upper tailgate handle switch ?
I have seen many threads regarding tailgate problems but I wonder if anyone experienced the following.
I can open the upper gate using the LR button on the remote and by using the master unlock and lock buttons on the dashboard.
But trying to use the handle switch will not work although I can hear the micro switch click.
Once the upper gate is open the lower gate operates normally.
Should I assume a faulty switch or a short in the wireing ?

Just repaired mine took 10 minutes.
Removed rubber cover then removed switch body from handle and found that the metal switch plate inside had stared to corrode, the white oxide (aluminium plate I guess) had accumulated behind the plate and was preventing the switch plate from operating the microswitch. The microswitch seemed to work just fine so I took the switch plate out (just pulls out) and cleaned it with wire wool and coated it in WD40 before re-fitting. Rubber cover back on and switch body back into handle...job's a good 'un...working perfectly

Cleaned mine the first time it happened - lasted 2 years so now replaced it with the RRS switch @ £20 rather than the whole unit @ £80.
Switch has exactly the same part number - as mentioned by DM above, simply chop the wiring connector off and use something like crimp terminals.

Good to know the switch can be replaced. Mine went first time about 2 years ago but I decided to go from a black handle to colour a coded one so that was fine. If it goes again it'll be a new switch
Seems these switches have a 2-3 year life span after which the corrosion builds up and stops them working...poor design really...

Disco 3 Tail gate switch repair
Many thanks for the feedback on this problem. You were on the ball in defining the exact cause and guess that many switches are replaced simply because the aluminium oxide crud has jammed the pivot point so that the plate cannot move to activate the switch. Mine was seized solid. Have cleaned the plate and interior of all the white bits and then waxoyled the plate before giving the pivot area a dose of WD 40. Works perfectly - will see how long this fix lasts!
