New Air BagFitted/Air Bag Disposal
After 2 years of looking at my steering wheel airbag curling its lip at me, I have finally bought myself a new one. Question is what to do with the old one? You see used ones for sale on ebay etc but how do you avoid it exploding in the post? If the only solution is disposal can you do that at the local dump?

Exploding in the post?
Are you posting it whilst connected to a 12 volt battery and a tremble switch?

But they can be set off by static electricity
And if you'd seen how powerful and exploding airbag is, you'd know fine well why they are classed as explosive devicesMy D3 Build Thread

Officially...
In a big, bomb proof steel box, that all garages dealing with airbags should own, they are detonated, so the explosive charge is defunctMy D3 Build Thread

So, new airbag arrived today, and also a new 12v battery so with air bag fitting requiring disconnecting the battery I decided to do both jobs tonight, in the dark & cold at the same time.
Bent a piece of wire to the correct size for releasing the old bag and then had to feel for the release clips inside the steering wheel and work out how hard to pull to free it - It's always a bit tricky doing something for the first time!
It was soon undone and the wires disconnected
New compared to the old in side profile
And then the view fitted, a nice clean top-line to the steering wheel.
There is a little mark on the surface vinyl of the new airbag which is why I got it cheap but it hardly shows up in normal light. The unforgiving camera flash makes it look much worse than it really is.
New battery connected up, reset the clock and jobs a good un.
All thanks to this great forum, marvellous.Just 'cause you got the power... that don't mean you got the right.
