New tyres - just to confirm

Many thanks for everyones contributions on here regarding what tyres to go for. Yes I know it's a subject like 'how long is a piece of string'.

Anyway after much reading and given my requirements on my 2006 D3 are 70% motorway, 20% country roads (issue with snow in winter) and 10% town driving I have decided to go with Goodyear Wrangler AW. Bang on my £500 budget for all 4.

Have got Pirelli Zeros on at the moment and certainly noticing grip issues throwing it around wet country lanes (plus that heart in mouth aqua planning moment doing 80 on a motorway).

Mileage isn't an issue. Probably around 7/8K per annum.

Would you say the Wrangler is a good choice given my requirements and budget. I'm a Yorkshireman so am always worried about parting with my hard earned cash but wouldn't put budget tyres on this.

Any tyre will last a lot longer if you slow down to the speed limit Whistle

Probably grip a bit better too

Big cost saving in both tyres and fuel

wranglers will last 25K miles or so, Pirelli ATRs will last 40k or so, with no decrease in grip or economy Whistle or increase in noise Joined the BMWX5 45e group

I think the Wrangler is not a bad choice. I have just been running the Pirelli Scorpion All Season and took them off 31k with 4mm - 5mm still on them. Good handling and grip in all conditions I used them in and they are rated as quiet as the Wranglers. They are a much better tyre than the Scorpion Zero imho. Downside is they seem a bit pricy recently but you may see a deal pop up. There is a thread on these tyres further down the wheel and tyres page.

Ahhhh but I might be tootling down the German Autobahn. Well ok actually the M62 towards Hull.

Point taken although really 70 on a motorway, come on lets have a rethink on the speed limit. But thats another thread debate.

Ukraine 

After I got my D4 I changed from 3mm Scorps to 6mm Wranglers and the difference in handling was like night to day. No more squirming and better in every way, plus before I put my ATRs on the wear rate meant I’d have done well over 40k on a new set. Thumbs Up
