Hope this helps others
I notice after I posted that someone in the household has knocked the rear bumper, dislodging the outer drivers sensor.
So removed rear bumper cover ….leave it at not fun.
The plastic mounting that holds the parking sensor was hanging free on 1 side.
So reglued that back in position.
I noticed that the wires were brittle on that sensor not great for a 5 year old car.
Cut and joined the 3 wires using 0.5 cable
Put everything back togethor all working
I can only think that the system self checks saw a dodgy sensor / wiring and turns everthing off
No new parts required just a bit of cable etc
perhaps Wiggs could confirm

No one in your household owning up to it then?
Someone is bound to look a little bit guilty! Stu

I have had this on occasion on my 2012 D4
I have found that a quick clean around each of the rear sensors and at the same time cleaning the camera tends to solve it.
I think the issue I have is that dirt causes a sensor to not work properly giving the same message as you appear to be getting
Hope this solves your issue

Mine defiantly had a broken wire on sensor
You know when they have that curve to them but don't want to move it was the blue wire.
