On a D3 it's pretty simpel to connect the hose to the oil cooler line. But can't finde the same on D4 because it's not the same cooler.
So share som tricks if you have some.

Today I have done the first part of the flush on my D4 2010.
Here's how I did it.
1.Remove the plate under the oilcooler
2. Disconnects the pipe that comes from the transmission (oil flow)
3 Secure it and put a pan under, and start the engin and let it run, I stopped when the steady stream stopped. About 4 liters. 20-30 sec.
4. Conect what ever yoy are using to pump the new oil in on the pipe to the cooler.

No, it is far easier on a D4 to simply remove the GB sump plug and let it drain, put plug back in and refill GB with same amount of oil as removed, run engine - for as long as you like even to next service and then repeat, check oil level with engine running. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

So to understand you correctly, you replace the gearbox oil every time you service the car?

No, you can’t drain all the oil out using either of these methods, you can only replace approximately 4.5ltr, the gearbox holds approximately 10ltr, you are changing appropriately 50% every service, to change all the gb oil on a D3 you must do a full flush as per Filo method.
If karemort did his method 3 times until clean new was coming out it would be equal to a full flush(which he probably did).
To change all the gb on a D4 8 speed you must use specialist equipment.
What must be understood what model we are discussing, the D3, the D4 6 speed or D4 8 speed, what I am implying can be done to all three and whilst it is impossible to change all the oil using this method it is far, far better than changing none, it is imperative the correct oil,is used not red ATF and the oil level checked with the engine running at tick over.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Thanks M3DPO, that’s what I thought. I called the garage and they quoted best part of £400 for oil and filter change. The car is a discovery 4 with 93,000 miles and ZF6HP28 gearbox. Would rather not pay the garage hundreds to do something I’ve the tools to do myself. The ZF lifeguard oil is expensive. As you say, if you just change 1/3 of the oil in the box in a few consecutive services, you will have replenished the majority of it.
I see these aftermarket filter kits but it looks like a real faff to change them, releasing gearbox mounts etc. Let’s see what greyhill 4x4 come back with, Ive asked them for a firm quote.
