Alternator Failure

Had a nasty failure of the alternator (all dashboard warning lights) and car drained entire battery in about 30 seconds.

Got it to the garage on the back of a recovery truck and I'm looking to get it replaced under my warranty. Warranty company want a picture of the garage's fault scanner showing the P0622 fault. Trouble is that the car isn't showing any faults.
Would this be normal after a full battery drain (even with a new battery/booster pack put on to give the car at least some juice)?

Is it down the the scanner the garage is using?

Any suggestions at all? I don't fancy dropping £500 the week before Christmas).

Problem would be that the shorted alternator created the same as a general clear (touch positive and negative together) and so all fault codes would be cleared Embarassed
check that the cable from the positive of battery is not shorted to diff housing.

Warranty company are saying that as soon as a new battery is put on it should pop the error code again but the car isn't doing it apparently. It has the battery light on the dash though so it know's something is up.

Disconnect alternator if necessary! to be safe

If the cable is shorted (happened a few times) then the new battery will die also.

It's had a whine (RPM based) for a little bit. Had one of the tensioners/guide rollers replaced but still maintained the whine. Alternator is full of mud as well according to the garage which all suggests it's that.

I'll get them to check for shorts in the wiring though - other than the diff housing, is there a usual location for this?

The thick cable to the starter motor. where it passes the front differential.
