Caravan renting
We are in the process of switching to a motorhome, but are toying with the idea of keeping the caravan just in case.
We are thinking about using one of the air b&b type services to rent it out has anyone done this?==================================

We did this with a camper trailer which worked fine for people taking it for a week or maybe two. The last rental we did was a 3 month one and the trailer didn’t look the same when it came back - the difference being people living in it versus just sleeping in it.
We didn’t have many issues but be prepared that some things need fixing/cleaning before it goes out on the next rental. Which makes it hard to do back to back rentals.
Make sure you create a manual on how things work in the van. Otherwise you’ll end up being called a lot “how does this work” and “this doesn’t work”.
Take a decent deposit, if only as an incentive for people to look after it. But it can be quite rewarding financially.

On the other side of this, anyone know of a good rental company to work with? We want to get into caravanning so would like to try one for a few weekends first, but we dont want to spend a fortune on admin fees or to the company.2010 Disco 4 HSE

I have rented a caravan (in between owning) from a local company.
The first year we rented a 6 berth Abbey, and it was very nice. It was nearly new, and I think we were the first people to hire it. The next year, we asked for the same caravan, and when we got it, it was apparent it had had a hard time! Not nearly as nice as it was a year earlier.
We then decided to own a van again, at least we can keep it like we would expect it to be kept.Richard

We had the same with a holiday home, we had it 2 years apart and the first year was amazing but the next time it was very tired and dirty.
It really annoys me when people dont treat things with respect, especially when its privately owned. Every holiday home we have ever used we have normally left in a better state than when we arrived.2010 Disco 4 HSE

Same here. When we did rent the caravan, it went back as clean, if not cleaner than when we hired it. I just couldn't leave it a mess!
I think to hire out a caravan, you have to expect it to be damaged, and to be able to replace it within 3 years. The hire price needs to be high enough to cover this.Richard

We have two holiday cottages and know what to expect there are those who think cleaning is beneath them, some think it's your problem, the majority leave them ok , just a few bits to do and some i would mind paying to do the cleaning. So we are in no illusions as to what's entailed.
There are several companies camplify is one started of in Australia.
Mates rates on the caravan are a possibility if we decide to go ahead, can't do anything on the cottages as we rarely have vacancies due to repeat bookings, many of our visitors have been coming that long they are part of the family, we have several couple who came with their parents and grew up with our kids who are now bringing their own children.==================================

Not sure how many rentals you'd get in a year in the UK, but here it was a case of every school holidays it would be rented out yet in between it was at home.
Berettta - Not close to you but we rented from Swindon Caravan Centre before when living in Cirencester. But you could pick the van up on your way to Cornwall I guess.2016 D4 TDV6 Corris Grey

We love North Wales, Anglesey, Caernarfon way and this is where we would look to go. With two small kids I don’t fancy the drive to Cornwall just yet.2010 Disco 4 HSE

Well we would be well suited location wise for you but not sure the van would suit as its a 4 berth, fixed double bed at the end and the lounge makes up into two single or a double.==================================
