Intermittent EPB fault light in wet weather |
|
Have had my 2008 D3 for just over 2 years (done about 12 miles in it - now about 98K). Probably my mechanic’s best client by now.
So bought August 2017 from *rogue* dealer.
New battery fitted 2 weeks later.
EPB jammed and had to be changed 2 months later with all brake pads + discs
Coolant expansion tank changed + bonnet sensor
EPB switch changed -> fault code keeps reappearing when red EPB light comes on, despite the module working
Four tyres changed
Lower suspension arms + bushes changed
Alternator replaced a month ago (happy Christmas)
Probably more work done but I forget right now and that’s the bulk of it.
After all of this, the EPB light still keeps coming on intermittently despite working fine. I thought maybe it was battery related but we’ve started noticing that it pretty much always happens when it pours outside/is very damp.
The car sleeps under an open car port. Back against the wall and facing out with the bonnet uncovered (carport not quite long enough to cover the whole car). We live in the country but the worst it does is the odd country lane.
When we took it to check the fault, we were told it was pointing to the EPB switch but that’s been changed and untouched since.
The light will sometimes even start blinking red while driving, and then - up to now - turn itself off after a day or three. It never comes off while driving though, only when turning the car on.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you
Ps. I must add that the back parking sensors have stopped working. When the alternator was changed last month, every time the R gear was engaged, there was no silencing them. Lasted for a few days and now they’ve gone quiet again. Wondering if my French way of gently nudging the wooden car port post when parking backwards, to make sure the car doesn’t poke out too much, hasn’t caused some wiring issues which could affect the EPB.
UPDATE - After I posted this, the light eventually just remained on constantly. I was then tipped about a really good indy called LDR in Bagshot. After 2 years, a dozen other indys, “4x4 specialists” and stealers, about £300+ of investigations, not counting a dealership “inspection” following someone rear ending me and the actual full replacement of EPB, John (of LDR Bagshot) fixed it in 10 min. The wire in the loom behind the back passenger side wheel had snapped.
Astounding that not even the stealers had thought about that....
