What’s your view?? Winters or all season tyres??
I used to run AT3 but now use Goodyear Ultragrip winter tyres. When the bad weather comes to the Highlands I learnt the hard way that it’s best not to compromise!
This video gives a good summary of the differences between the two compounds on a 4x4.

Lots of discussion historically on here.
I use wintracs on mine over the AT's for summer. You can't beat physics and need all the help you can get in cars this big especially when stopping. Driver skill plays heavy but when its SWMBO on the road with the Kids alongside all the idiots ignoring conditions going full pelt I want to know she has the best chance of staying safe.
Winter tyres give a very noticeable increase in stoping and road holding performance. Also use them on our Little car.MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Winters for me on any car, it's more the stopping help than the getting going. Jaguar I-Pace HSE imminent.

I used to change from winter to ATs and back every year. I would still be doing this if like NC500 I lived in the Highlands - but I visit them say twice a winter .
I found that winters clogged up easily with mud and I was sliding all over tracks. I wasn't too impressed in deep off road snow either.
As I mainly drive on road and in southern UK I now just have Duratracs which are brilliant off road. And I go slow in snow on road.
All tyres are a compromise but there has been so much less snow in the Highlands over the last 4-5 years I felt they were not worth keeping - especially compared to about 10 years ago when I recall in Tomintoul the ice and snow lasted for 3 months.

Agreed, I pasted everything last year in my Ford Galaxy on winters going up a long steep up hill out of Burnley (Manchester Rd) So much so my Neighbour said I didn't know your new Galaxy was four wheel drive to which I replied "its not its the tyres" Got 4 new ones on this year The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the best of everything they have.

I have a set of studded tyres that are brilliant on the ice, and use them in the U.K. when appropriate.

It all depends who you ask really, some people will have a set of summers and winters and change them according to the season, however I myself have all-season tyres on my car.
I'm not quite sure how it'd compare financially if I swapped tyres based on the season, it might actually work out cheaper in some cases, but the main reason being is that I try to have my tyres changed as little as possible.
I would have to advised against anyone thinking of leaving winter tyres on their car during summer however, as the braking distance is actually increased rather than shortened like it is in winter. Probably not as dangerous as having summer tyres in winter, but it's still not ideal.
