Hmmmm.
I wonder about loosing the generic uses of that screen, and the boot up/shut down process. Also how does the integration with the car's audio work?

Aux socket for sound.
They will move the cars standard screen somewhere else (top glovebox) so you can still tune the radio/pair your phone.

That's a very expensive option , for what has already been highlighted as a very cheap tablet.
By using the aux input for sound you can fit almost anything your imagination and skill could muster. If you have up to 500 quid to spent then you could fit a very nice unit in there

Agreed. Really need to find the right bluetooth streaming solution and get a better tablet to install!

I have decided I will, when I have finished with urgent repairs, install a reasonably priced head unit in place of the navy screen. I will then simply run the feeds to power it and then run all sound output through the aux into e original head unit.
This leaves the original head unit in places doesn't disturb the MOST system and retains all original functions, with the added benefit of me being able to use modern head unit and sat nav and. Leaving the original head unit on aux play will simply be the only requirement.
Mefhless double dins are cheap now and lots of size options exist. I'm thinking of using an android unit, this would allow up dates and a vast option of features. Would really update the interior of the D3

It runs Android 5.1.
App called Car Launcher is the home screen you see.
4x4 is Inclometer downloaded from Play store.
Reverse camera is a wireless device that connects via Wi-Fi.
It is really only the oem 4x4 screen that you loose if you do this mod and that's if you had it in the 1st place. If you use a Android phone you can have full phone use as well, not with Apple devices tho

That's the same tablet that the guy on eBay uses. It looked pretty low spec and was hoping there was an alternative! I guess if you have first hand experience of it working that's good enough for me. In reality all it will be used for is nav and music so should be able to cope with that. I'm going to get one ordered and crack on with this

I did do it in my old D3. In my new D3, I simply got a ram mount rail and mount my ipad pro and iphone in front of the old screen.
